20 APRIL 2020
As of January 1st, 2021, Mastercard will be making changes to the Acquiring Volume Fee for certain countries in Europe.
This fee currently has a tiered structure where the magnitude of the fee is dependent on the processed transaction volume, but from January 2021 a flat fee will be levied instead.
The countries impacted by this change are Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
For the Nordic & Baltic countries the new flat rate will be 3.5 bps and for UK and Ireland the new fee will be 2.5 bps. The fee is applied to all MasterCard card types and transaction types.
As for Bambora’s customers, merchants on a Blended price model will not be impacted unless informed directly, while IC++ merchants will see the update as part of their reported scheme fees automatically.
Please note that this update from Mastercard was previously announced to be effective as of July 2020 but was deferred to January 2021 due to the industry-wide impacts of COVID-19.
